Director of Operations for the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Divine Nkrumah has stated that it is very necessary to appoint Electoral Commission officials based on proper qualification and not mere political affiliation.
According to him, it is important to avoid the conversation that being a mere Ghanaian qualifies an individual for an appointment.
“When you complain about recruitment process in Ghana, they argue that the individuals are Ghanaians and are therefore qualified, however that shouldn’t be the case,” he said.
He added the need to ensure proper yardstick in selection and appointment of individuals into government positions.
“But we are saying that let’s build a system that hinges on meritocracy that gives appointment to individuals who are qualified in a particular field,”
Divine Nkrumah pointed out that appointing electoral officials should be based on merits and not their political affiliation.
He pointed out the dangers involved when political tinted individuals are appointed to handle electoral issues.
“When you appoint a constituency executives as ec official you reduce the trust in the commission,” he added.
