Parliamentary Candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon, on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress, John Dumelo, has called on the Electoral Commission to extend the date for the limited voters registration exercise for students in tertiary institutions.
He argued that over 7000 eligible voters haven’t been captured in the voters register yet due to the limited time allocated for the exercise.
Speaking at a registration center in the constituency he said, “For me, my main concern is the university campuses especially the Legon Campus, you have over 1000 students who are new and 1000s of students who are eligible voters and as it stands only 300 have had the chance to register.”
He added that the Electoral Commission should extend the time for limited voters registration on university campuses since today Friday, May 10, 2024, is the last day.
“300 out of over 7000 eligible voters have been registered and today is the last day for the campuses and I think this is something that is of a great concern to.
“That they should be able to extend especially Legon campus so that most of the students will be able to register, if not they will be disenfranchised,” he added.
