Finidi George has been unveiled as Super Eagles coach by the Nigerian Football Federation, with the 53-year-old signing a contract that secures his position at the helm for the next 24 months.

The former Nigeria star has succeeded Jose Peseiro, who quit after leading Nigeria to the final of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

George assumed interim charge for Nigeria’s friendlies against Ghana and Mali in March. Additionally, he has been serving as the head coach of Nigerian top-flight side Enyimba since September 2021.

As a player, George enjoyed success with Ajax, winning the Eredivisie title and the Champions League. He also played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s 1994 AFCON triumph.

George’s primary objectives will include steering Nigeria to qualification for the next edition of the AFCON, scheduled to be held in Morocco in 2025, as well as the 2026 World Cup.

His tenure will kick off with Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin in June.
