Football is about winning trophies – Erik ten Hag after FA Cup win

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has expressed his joy insisting that the team have done themselves proud after beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley, despite a difficult run this campaign.

The Red Devils manager came under constant criticism throughout the season for a lack of consistency as Manchester United finished in eighth place on the Premier League table.

However, Ten Hag has gone on to defy the odds by beating City in the final, recording his second title in his second year in England.

Speaking in a post-match interview about United’s season and impressive performance over their City rivals, Erik ten Hag expressed his satisfaction with having a title to show for in two successive campaigns, believing the players and staff as crucial towards attaining such a memorable feat.

“Football is about winning trophies . At the end of the day, I want to play the best football. I want to play dynamic football. Attacking football. In the end, you have to win games and you have to win trophies. that is the mentality we brought in. I’m so proud of the players and staff. We did an incredible job”, he told BBC Sport.

Ten Hag also touched on United’s previous struggles and how far the team has come, insisting that should he stay, there’s more to achieve at Manchester United.

“When I came in, I can say it was a mess. We are now better. We are good but far off where we want to be”, he added.

24 hours prior to the final, reports from Manchester indicated that Ten Hag was on the verge of being sacked after the FA Cup final.

Now however, his continuity looks likely by the day, after edging cit,y rivals and Premier League champions to cap off a very difficult season.
