Black Starlets assistant coach vows to impress in Laryea Kingston’s absence

Assistant Black Starlets coach is determined to capitalise on the opportunity to lead the team following the resignation of head coach Laryea Kingston as the team faces Nigeria in the WAFU B U17 third-place clash.

Laryea Kingston who had led the team impressively in the tournament securing 5-1  and 2-0 wins stepped down after succumbing to a 2-1 defeat to Burkina Faso in the semi-finals.

The former Black Stars player expressed his disappointment after the game and revealed his decision to resign after the tournament was well thought through.

With the Ghana U17 side set to battle for a bronze medal in the competition against Nigeria, Nana Agyemang is tasked to take charge in what may be a career-defining moment for him.

“Pretty ready. After the defeat of Burkina Faso, it was a little rough but we’ve been able to psyche the boys up and then we’ve gotten them back in,” he said ahead of the clash scheduled to take place at the University of Ghana Stadium on Tuesday.

“The boys are ready because they have a lifeline and they know that they have to take the lifeline to be able to qualify for the AFCON.

Agyemang is ready to make the opportunity of leading the youngsters count in the absence of Kingston.

“It’s extremely important. I mean it’s my first national assignment. At first, being the assistant to Laryea Kingston and now taking the reins for this last game I think it’s very very important. For me, it really defines my coaching career and I am going to do everything possible to win this to put smiles back on the faces of Ghanaians and also to be able to uplift my own self as a coach.”

The match kicks off at 4 pm local time as Ghana aim to keep their hopes of an AFCON return alive.
