Kieran Trippier has given an honest opinion about England’s failure to win Euro 2024, admitting that their loss to Spain in the final on Sunday was not due to fatigue.

The Three Lions were defeated 2-1 by Spain in Berlin, extending the men’s 58-year wait for a major tournament win.

After Sunday’s defeat, England boss Gareth Southgate mentioned that some of his players were “a little bit short of their physical peak” during the month-long tournament.

However, Newcastle defender Trippier, who started six of England’s seven games, dismissed that as an excuse.

“The team that we’ve got is fit,” Trippier stated. “If you see the running stats, I think we’re probably the highest in the whole tournament. So that’s not an excuse.

“They [Spain] get the second goal and it’s always difficult when you’re chasing the game against a team like Spain.

“Football is all about fine margins. It’s one of those where the lads gave everything.”

Spain were dominant throughout the tournament, securing victories in all of their seven games.

England, on the other hand, relied on experience and individual brilliance to reach the final. However, La Roja proved too tough, with their speedsters and skillful youngsters overwhelming Southgate’s men.
