Former Chairman of the Inter-ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, has protested the punishment given Galamsey Queen, Aisha Huang.
According to him, the Chinese National who stood trial for years for engaging in illegal mining ought to have been jailed for more than four years.
“She should’ve been jailed for more than four years because her actions against our environment transcended the old laws governing Galamsey…,” he said on Angel Morning Show on Tuesday.

The Chinese National who was once deported for engaging in different illegal mining activities on Bepotenten in the Ashanti Region was jailed for four and half years after guilty of various charges on Galamsey.
She was also fined GHC48,000 for same offences.
This punishment, Prof Frimpong Boateng argued is not deterrent enough for a foreign national who has caused so much damage to the country’s environment.

To him, a much stiffer punishment could have helped the fight against the canker.
