The Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, says President Nana Akufo-Addo’s influence over the Majority Caucus in Parliament has waned.
According to Dr. Ato Forson, current developments in Parliament indicate a shift in loyalty among members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) towards their new flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
the Ajumako Enyan Essiam representative in the legislature claims that the President “has become stranded”, adding, “his duty as a President has come to an end with decreased control over NPP MPs.
“Two years ago, I wouldn’t be sure that NPP MPs will break ranks with President Akufo-Addo but now the President is weak within his own party. They see him more or less as lame. He is a lame duck.
“They have a new leader, and you can see that loyalty and allegiance have moved from the President to the new flagbearer. I sit in Parliament and I see it by the day.” he said in an interview.
He added that for Akufo-Addo’s Vice President to condemn his [President’s] policies recently, confirms that he has become a mere lame duck.
