The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region, Dr Kwaku Afriyie, has been sacked from the chamber of Parliament by the Speaker of the House, Alban Kingsford Bagbin.
The speaker during proceedings on Monday ordered the Marshall of Ghana’s Parliament to walk out the MP out of the Chamber for challenging the authority of the 3rd gentleman of the House.
The decision was reached after the NPP MP challenged the authority of the Speaker to allow preliminary comments on the referral of some nominees to the Supreme Court to the Appointments Committee.
This comment was deemed contemptuous by the Speaker who described it as ‘rude’ as well.
During proceedings on Monday, the Speaker announced the nomination of new judges to the Supreme Court.
Following the speaker’s reading, the MP appears to have made some comments which was not seemingly captured by the microphone.
But the Speaker seems to have heard it and ordered that the Sefwi Wiawso MP vacate the chamber.
