The youth of Axim have shown their displeasure with the leaders following the delay in the completion of the Sports Complex.
A team led by the then Sports Minister, Hon. Isaac Asiamah cut a sod at Axim to begin the construction of an ultramodern sports complex in 2018.
The facility has since not been completed and handed over to the public for use.
This has led the Youth petition leaders to express their dissatisfaction with the situation.
According to Jonas Kabutey who is the Speaker for the Youth of Axim, they are given leaders an ultimatum of two months to complete the facility and handover else they will use it as it is.
“We have not been treated fairly, the construction of the stadium has taken 7 years and it is still not ready.
“We are given authorities the next two months, if we don’t see any progress, we will take over the facility and use it by ourselves, he told Connect FM in an interview.
The delay in the completion of the Sports Complex has by extension affected sports development in Axim and it’s a major concern for the youth of the area.
“It is sad to state emphatically that, there is no proper Stadium in Western Region to host Premier League matches which are currently ongoing.
“At the moment, there is no proper stadium to host such matches. However, the reliable and well-established Esipon-Stadium is under refurbishment and time cannot tell when
the stadium would be completed,” Kabutey added on Connect FM.
The Axim Sports Complex if completed is expected to have a FIFA standard playing field, restaurant, ICT Laboratory and others.
