Barcelona have defended their Women’s Champions League title while also completing a sensational quadruple after beating record eight-time winners Lyon in a pulsating final in Bilbao.
The sold-out San Mamés Stadium was treated to a stunning display from both teams even though it was goalless at the break.
Goals from Aitana Bonmati and Alexia Putellas were enough to seal victory for Barcelona in Bilbao as they avenged their final defeat in 2022.
The victory is Barca’s first over eight-time winners Lyon in their fifth attempt. The Catalan club also win the competition for the third time.
In what was both coaches’ final match in charge of their respective clubs, it was Barcelona who controlled possession as expected but were largely frustrated by a stubborn Lyon defence.

The Spanish side created chances but it was not until the 63rd minute when Balón dor winner Aitana Bonmati’s deflected strike gave Barcelona the lead.
Sonia Bompastor is set to replace Emma Hayes at Chelsea and would have loved to end her tenure with a trophy. However hitting the crossbar when England defender Lucy Bronze almost deflected a corner into her own net, was only the closest they came to troubling Barcelona before Wendie Renard and Kadidiatou Diani’s chances.
In the end, it was the Catalan side who won their third title of the competition while sealing a record-breaking quadruple after already winning the domestic trophies.
