Barcelona have sacked manager Xavi Hernandez despite his decision to stay beyond the end of the season.
The Spaniard announced in January that he would leave the Camp Nou, but he was persuaded to stay by club president Joan Laporta in April.
But recent comments from Xavi, in which he opened up about the club’s financial struggles, are said to have angered Laporta.
Xavi, who had been contracted until 2025, was informed of the club’s decision during a meeting with Laporta and sporting director Deco.

The former Barcelona midfielder earned praise for managing a team marred with financial crisis as he focused on developing young talents like Gavi, Pedri and Lamine Yamal among others.
However, he has failed to impress in recent times having failed to deliver in the UEFA Champions League, a competition the club deems significant beyond any other achievement.
Meanwhile, there are concrete reports suggesting Hansi Flick, the former Bayern Munich boss is set to takeover.
Laporta is believed to be in advanced talks with the 59-year-old who has reciprocated his interest.
It remains to be known which manager will be in the dugout in the absence of Xavi when the Catalans embark on a final day trip to Sevilla on Sunday.
However, the announcement has left many football enthusiasts shocked considering the Xavi’s change of mind before the end of the season.
