The Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has outlined initiatives to rejuvenate the Ghana Premier League and support local clubs.
During the launch of the NPP’s 2024 Manifesto, Dr. Bawumia introduced a series of sports development policies, focusing on funding, training, tax incentives, and direct support.
Dr. Bawumia stated that, as President, his government would “support the revival of the Premier League and clubs to improve commercial viability and create related jobs.”
He detailed plans to assist Premier League clubs by establishing a Sports Employment Module through the National Lotteries Authority and the Gaming Commission, which would help fund operational expenses, including player remuneration.
In addition to financial support, Dr Bawumia promised to provide each Premier League club with a bus to alleviate transportation challenges.
To further boost sports development, Dr. Bawumia announced plans to use tax incentives, including a flat tax, to encourage private sector investments in sports.
