Bofoakwa Tano chairman criticises officiating standards despite FA Cup success

Board Chairman of Bofoakwa Tano Yaw Boateng Gyan is unhappy with officiating in the domestic football competitions despite his team reaching the final of the MTN FA Cup.

Having secured promotion to the Ghana Premier League after a 16-year absence, the Bono side have defied the odds to reach the final of the cup competition.

However, Boateng Gyan feels the regulation of the game has been mishandled by referees.

“Some clubs are formed to commercialise and thus collapsing traditional clubs, and with their power in authority, they appoint referees who can go bed with them and influence matches; these referees are the ones destroying our sports. Consider how Kotoko and Hearts are struggling,” he told Akoma Sports.

“As Bofoakwa Tano’s Board Chairman, I don’t recall ever seeing a GPL match live at the stadium. I prefer watching the foreign league over the local league because there are no standout players in our league to draw fans.

“Fair play should be practiced in our game, and coaches affiliated with their clubs should no longer be appointed [to national teams].

Bofoakwa Tano were successful in the semi-finals of the FA Cup as they stunned defending champions Dreams FC 2-1 after extra time.

However, in their quest to win the title and make it to the CAF Confederation Cup, they will have to beat fellow Premier League side Nsoatreman on June 23.
