
Southern African teams shone brightly at the CAF African Schools Football Tournament, clinching both the boys’ and girls’ titles in a thrilling conclusion held in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
The four-day competition wrapped up on Friday, May 24, at the Amaan Stadium.
The host nation, Tanzania, emerged victorious in the boys’ division, delighting their home supporters by defeating Guinea in the final. This victory marked a significant achievement for Tanzanian youth football on home soil.
In the girls’ division, South Africa ascended to the pinnacle of African youth football. They triumphed over Morocco in a dramatic 1-1 (5-4) penalty shootout victory, showcasing their skill and resilience.
In the girls’ third-place play-off, Uganda demonstrated tenacity by overcoming the hosts, Tanzania, to secure the bronze medal. Despite their success in the boys’ division, Tanzania fell short in the girls’ category.

The boys’ bronze medal contest saw a tightly contested match between Senegal and Benin, which ended in a draw and was decided by penalties. Senegal emerged victorious, adding a bronze to their accomplishments.
The CAF African Schools Football Championship concluded yet another impactful season, celebrating and developing African youth football across all aspects of the game.
The tournament provided a platform for young talents to showcase their abilities and gain invaluable experience.
