Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has signed with Italian side Fiorentina in an effort to reinvigorate his career.

Fiorentina announced that De Gea will be presented to the media on Monday, 12 August, though the length of his contract has not been disclosed.

De Gea, who enjoyed a distinguished 13-year stint at Manchester United, made 545 appearances and was instrumental in the club’s 2012-13 Premier League title win. His trophy cabinet at Old Trafford also includes two League Cups, one FA Cup, and the Europa League.

After his contract with United ended in 2023, De Gea spent last season without a club.

Fiorentina, who finished eighth in Serie A last season and have reached the UEFA Conference League play-offs again, will be hoping De Gea can help them achieve their first major trophy since 2001, when they won the Coppa Italia.

The 33-year-old, known for his excellent reflexes, will look to regain his form after struggling in recent years and losing his spot with the Spanish national team.

De Gea previously starred at Atletico Madrid before his successful move to Manchester United, and his signing is expected to be a significant boost for Fiorentina as they aim to compete on both domestic and European fronts.
