With the 2024-25 summer transfer deadline approaching (August 30-31), 3Sports takes a look at some high-profile Ghanaians who could be on the move before the closure of the window.
André Ayew
The Black Stars captain has been without a club since parting ways with Le Havre last season. André was dropped from Ghana’s squad during June’s Internationals, and could equally be omitted from the upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifying squad.
However, in the off-season, the 34-year-old was spotted going through rigid training regimes to keep fit ahead of any potential move.
An imminent move is not expected, with Saudi clubs showing interest in the player.
Tariq Lamptey
Since completing his €1.2 million move from Chelsea to Brighton in the 2019-20 season, Tariq has had a torrid time with injuries. His 88 Premier League appearances across 4 seasons gives a vivid perspective on Tariq’s injury woes.
Playing under his 3rd manager since joining the Seagulls (Graham Potter and Roberto De Zerbi being the previous two), Tariq’s persistent injuries is an area of concern.
Head coach Fabian Hürzeler has, however, kept his cards close to his chest on the prospect of the full-back being a part of his long-term plans. Amidst the cloud of uncertainty that hangs on Lamptey’s future, the right-back could be on the move.
The 23-year-old, who missed Brighton’s season opener at Goodison Park, has suitors from European clubs – with French and German teams leading the pack.
Salis Abdul Samed
Scooped from Clermont Foot for €5.0million in 2022, Salis Samed’s time at Rc Lens has been topsy-turvy. A strong showing against PSG in his debut season for Lens outlined the immense potential of the 24-year-old. The promise shown from his debut season has dwindled in the last 12 months, with manager Will Still confirming Salis, together with other Lens players, have been training with the reserves as the club looks to balance its books by offloading players.
French club Montpellier are offering an outlet for the player, presenting themselves as a viable destination for him. Salis’ current contract runs out in the summer of 2028, but the midfielder is heavily linked with a move away from Lens.
Thomas Partey
Partey, similar to Tariq Lamptey, has been plagued with injuries in his time in England. The Black Stars deputy skipper’s place in Arsenal’s set-up, especially after the acquisition of Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad, is under threat.
Partey is one of the highest earners at the North London club and was heavily linked with a move to join Black Stars team-mate Alexander Djiku and Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahçe, although the move failed to materialize.
Middle East clubs are also queuing up for his signature, with Partey’s injury record an area of concern for Arsenal.
Daniel Amartey
Daniel Amartey could well be on his way out from Besiktas after moving to join the Turkish outfit as a free agent ahead of the 2023-24 campaign. His inability to nail down a starting berth, due to injuries and tactical decisions, saw him make 18 appearances across the Turkish league last term.
Former manager Brendan Rodgers and Celtic have expressed interest in the Black Stars centre back who is struggling for minutes and game time in Turkey.
