The Ghanaian 4x100m relay team is set to take the track by storm at the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The quartet, comprising Abdul Rasheed Saminu, Benjamin Azamati, Ibrahim Fuseini, and Joseph Paul Amoah, will face off against formidable opponents in Heat 2 on Thursday morning at 9:35 am Ghana time.
With a strong lineup that includes Jamaica, Canada, China, and other powerhouses, the Ghanaians will need to bring their A-game to secure a spot in the final. The team will be relying on their speed, strategy, and teamwork to outmaneuver their competitors and make it to the top three in their heat or achieve one of the fastest times.
Ghana’s relay team has a growing reputation, having made it to the final in the previous Olympic Games in Tokyo
They qualified for the Paris Olympics courtesy of their impressive performance at the World Relays in the Bahamas earlier this year.
Benjamin Azamati, who reached the semi-finals of the 100m in Paris and Joseph Paul Amoah were part of Ghana’s team four years ago.
First-timer Abdul-Rasheed Saminu reached the semi-final of the men’s 100m in Paris.
However, like Azamati, he missed out on the final and has channeled his attention to the relay event which happens to be Ghana’s last hope for a medal.
Ibrahim Fuseini will also be in the tracks for the time at the Olympics with Isaac Botsio backing the team up.
Ghana were represented in swimming but both Harry Stacey and Joselle Mensah failed to advance in their respective events while debutant high jumper Rose Yeboah missed out on the final after falling short of clearing a height of 1.92m.
For the 4x100m relay team, they have proved to be a formidable side over the years evidenced by their promising show in Tokyo where they only fell short on the final owing to an error in baton exchange.
As the nation holds its breath, the team is ready to put everything on the line and make Ghana proud.
