Ghanaian swimmer Harry Stacey made a historic appearance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games finishing seventh in heat 4 of the 100m freestyle.
On Tuesday, Stacey, with a time of 51.12, beat Sri Lankan swimmer Kyle Abeysinghe to secure the seventh spot.
Although the result may not have been what Stacey hoped for, his appearance in the prestigious event marks a significant milestone for Ghanaian swimming.
Back in Accra, the swimming community rallied behind him, cheering on their pioneering athlete.
Stacey’s journey to the Olympics was made possible through a wild card slot, and he now joins Abeiku Jackson as only the second male swimmer to represent Ghana in the sport at the Olympic level.
Notably, the 24-year-old still holds the national records in the 100m freestyle (57.50) and 50m backstroke (26.14), demonstrating his potential for future success.

Ghana will have another chance to shine in the pool when Joselle Mensah competes in the Women’s 50m freestyle on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
Mensah’s upcoming event will be eagerly anticipated by Ghanaian swimming fans, who are celebrating Stacey’s historic appearance and looking forward to more achievements from their athletes.
