Flagbearer of Movement for Change, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has outlined his dire desire to fight corruption.
Appearing on Angel Morning Show, Wednesday June 26, 2024, Alan Kyerematen pointed out that if corruption is properly combated, there will be no need going to the International Monetary Fund for support.
“You will marvel if I should tell you what corruption is doing to our economy and if we are to step up in fighting it there will be no need going to IMF for loans,” he said.
In the quest to fight the economic canker, he outlined that his administration will appoint an anti-corruption Czar who will have absolute independence from the Attorney General and will have the power and authority to persecute corrupt appointees.
He pointed out that anti-corruption Czar will have much independence unlike the Special prosecutor have failed in carrying out their duties due to the dependence on the Attorney General.
“Special prosecutor is supposed to be an independent body to undertake investigations into corrupt activities but practically he is not because he derives his powers from the Attorney General.
“What makes the Czar different from the special prosecutor is that the Czar will have more independence to act on corrupt issues making him superior,” he added.
He added that due to powers that will be vested into the Czar even the president can be prosecuted if found guilty.
“The independence of the Czar will make him so powerful to prosecute corrupt appointees to the extend that even me as the president can’t challenge him.”
