Former Chelsea midfielder Ngolo Kante says he is ‘delighted to be back’ in action for France after putting up an impressive performance in Les Blues’ 1-0 win over Austria, in their Euro 2024 opener.
Kante’s last international game was in June 2022, yet made an unexpected return two years after, following Didier Deschamps’ squad list for the 2024 Euros.
The 33-year-old put in a masterclass against Austria, and was awarded Man of the Match in France’s tournament opener.
Speaking to the press in a post-match interview, Kante expressed his delight to return to national team action, indicating it was a beautiful feeling to connect with the fans and teammates
“Thanks, everyone! I’m delighted to be back, it’s nice! I like to be with the national team. I loved it when the fans started chanting my name… merci! Thank you,” he told TF1.
Les Blues were far from convincing against Austria, failing to impose their dominance in the game.
However, they managed to grab all three points as Kante rose to the occasion and proved himself on the day.
For France, an absolute jewel and professional is back in their fold to increase their chances of winning another international tournament, and although Les Blues were far from their best level, there is still plenty to show for at Euro 2024 with the midfield maestro.
