Joao Pedro’s late winner means Brighton have won their first two competitive games under new boss Fabian Hurzeler

João Pedro scored a dramatic 95th-minute winner to give Brighton a thrilling victory over Manchester United, maintaining their perfect start to the season.

United thought they had secured the win when Alejandro Garnacho turned in Bruno Fernandes’ low cross with 18 minutes left, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review revealed the ball had brushed Joshua Zirkzee before crossing the line.

Pedro capitalized on the opportunity, heading in Simon Adingra’s far-post cross to seal the win and give Fabian Hurzeler a dream debut as Brighton manager. Former United striker Danny Welbeck opened the scoring in the first half, netting his fifth Premier League goal against his former club and nearly adding a second with a header that hit the crossbar.

United equalized through Amad Diallo on the hour mark, but their momentum faded after Garnacho’s disallowed goal. Scott McTominay and Casemiro tried their luck from distance but couldn’t find the target.

The final whistle brought celebrations at the Amex Stadium, with Hurzeler jubilant and Billy Gilmour, who has been linked with a move to Napoli, earning man of the match honors to the delight of the home crowd.
