200m Olympic Champion Letsile Tebogo left the field in his wake as he eased his way to a 19.64s finish to take first place at the Lausanne Diamond League on Thursday.
Fresh from his 200m exploits at the Olympic Games, where he became the first African to win gold over the distance, and the first Botswanan to annex gold at the Olympics, Tebogo had a spring in his step.
Unperturbed by the stacked field, which included triple world champion Fred Kerley, US sensation Erriyon Knighton, Dominican Republic’s Dominic Ogando, and Liberia’s Joseph Fahnbulleh, Tebogo cruised to the finish line in imperious fashion.
His 19.64s finish was enough to hand him first place, while Erriyon Knighton took second in 19.78s.
Fred Kerley’s season’s best of 19.68s was good enough for third, as Dominic Ogando’s blistering season best run (19.94s) saw him take fourth.
Meanwhile, Liberian and African 100m champion, Joseph Fahnbulleh came through in sixth place in a time of 20.18s.
Elsewhere in the women’s 100m, Britain’s Diana Asher Smith came first in 10.88s, leaving United States Davis Tamari (10.97s) and Switzerland’s Mujinga (11.06s) in second and third respectively.
Norway’s Jacob Ingebrigtsen also bounced back from marginally finishing outside the podium spots in the men’s 1500m in Paris with a meeting record in Lausanne.
His sizzling 3:27.83s finish was enough to outfox USA’s Olympic champion Hocker Cole ( 3:29.85s) in second, with fellow countryman Kessler Hobbs coming through in third (3:30.47s).
