Medeama aim to win Ghana Premier League again

Medeama technical director Augustine Evans Adotey is optimistic about reclaiming the Ghana Premier League (GPL) title in the upcoming 2024/2025 season.

The Yellow and Mauves have been stationed in Koforidua, gearing up for the new season as they aim to return to the pinnacle of the GPL.

Last season, Medeama finished in eighth place, surrendering the title they won in 2022/2023 to regional rivals FC Samartex 1996. Adotey attributed their struggles to a demanding schedule, particularly due to their participation in the CAF Champions League.

“If you review my report, you’ll see that we didn’t have it easy. Travelling, playing away from home, and the constant engagement in outstanding matches took its toll. After playing an outstanding game in the Premier League, we had to travel back to Cape Coast, and sometimes we travelled from Kumasi to Tarkwa or from Tarkwa to Cape Coast. It was exhausting. These were some of the factors that contributed to our exit from the tournament,” he explained to 3Sports.

With the new season set to begin on the weekend of September 6th – 9th, 2024, Adotey, who is in charge of the club’s technical direction, expressed the team’s determination to win the league.

“The past is behind us. We aimed to defend our title, but unfortunately, it slipped away. Finishing eighth last season does not reflect well on Medeama. Our target now is to reclaim the title. By the end of this season, Medeama will be champions of Ghana,” Adotey asserted.

Medeama SC will wrap up their preparations in Koforidua this week before returning to their base in Tarkwa to fine-tune their strategy ahead of the season opener.
