Now, I have my Ghana passport – German-born defender Patric Pfeiffer

Augsburg center-back Patric Pfeiffer has announced that his nationality switch from Germany to Ghana is officially complete, as he has now acquired his Ghanaian passport.

The 24-year-old defender, born in Hamburg but of Ghanaian descent, is now poised to represent the Black Stars on the international stage.

Two years ago, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) revealed that Pfeiffer was among several players switching their national allegiance to Ghana.

However, a delay in completing his paperwork meant he was unable to join the Black Stars’ squads until now.

In an update from Augsburg’s pre-season camp in Mpumalanga, South Africa, Pfeiffer shared his excitement about the development.

“A few weeks ago I was in Ghana and now I have my passport,” he told South African journalists. “I hope in September I can get a call-up. I know the coach, Otto Addo, because he was the coach of Hamburg in the youth team [where I played].”

Patric Pfeiffer expressed his strong connection to Ghana, saying, “This is my motherland, I love Ghana, I love the people, I love the vibe, I love the food. Yes, I was born and raised in Germany but I love Ghana as well.”

Despite battling recurring injuries last season, Pfeiffer made 11 appearances in the Bundesliga. He is now eager to contribute to the Black Stars as they prepare for their 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, which begin in September.
