The 2024 Olympic Games officially opened with a historic and unforgettable ceremony along the Seine River. Despite persistent rain, the event showcased the city’s iconic landmarks as the backdrop for a spectacular celebration of sport and culture.
Football legend Zinedine Zidane initiated the proceedings, passing the Olympic torch to tennis great Rafael Nadal. A star-studded lineup, including Serena Williams, Nadia Comaneci, and Carl Lewis, carried the flame down the river before Marie-Jose Perec and Teddy Riner ignited the cauldron in a unique aerial display.
The ceremony was marked by a series of unforgettable performances, including a captivating act by Lady Gaga and a highly anticipated appearance by Celine Dion, who performed Edith Piaf’s ‘L’Hymne a l’amour’ at the Eiffel Tower.
For the first time in Olympic history, the opening ceremony took place outside a stadium, with athletes from around the world, including Team Ghana led by flagbearer Joseph Paul Amoah parading along the Seine in boats.
