Otto Addo, Black Stars coach

Former Black Stars defender Samuel Osei Kuffour has welcomed the return of Otto Addo as Ghana’s coach, saying that it was a wise decision to bring him back.

Addo, who previously led Ghana to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar where they won one game before exiting in the first round, has now accepted a long-term deal with the Ghana Football Association for a second stint with the national team.

Addo’s new contract spans an initial 34 months with an option for an additional 24 months. Since his return, the Black Stars have achieved consecutive victories in recent matches against Mali and the Central African Republic, revitalising their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Kuffour, who played alongside Addo and served on the Black Stars management committee during Addo’s first tenure, praised the coach’s approach and commitment to excellence, drawing from their shared experiences.

The Black Stars will resume action in September with the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, aiming to build on their recent successes under Addo’s leadership.
