Jamaican sprinting legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has withdrawn from the 100m competition at Paris 2024, missing the semi-finals despite qualifying from her heat.
The 37-year-old, a five-time world and two-time Olympic 100m champion, made the decision not to compete in the semi-final as she aims to end her illustrious career on a high note.
Fraser-Pryce, who has been a dominant force in sprinting, was looking to extend her Olympic medal tally with a fifth consecutive appearance on the 100m podium.
Fraser-Pryce’s withdrawal opens the door for her to potentially add to her medal collection as part of Jamaica’s women’s 4x100m relay team.
The team, which secured gold in Tokyo three years ago, could benefit from her experience and leadership in the relay event.

The sprint icon, who announced her retirement in February, has a personal best of 10.60 seconds, making her the third-fastest woman in history.
Fraser-Pryce first made a mark on the global stage in 2007 with Jamaica’s 4x100m relay team at the World Championships.
Paris 2024 will be her final Games before retiring from competitive athletics.
