Bayern Munich’s aspirations for another Bundesliga title have been dealt a significant blow as manager Thomas Tuchel conceded defeat in the title race following their 2-0 home loss to Borussia Dortmund.
The defeat, marked by goals from Karim Adeyemi and Julian Ryerson, leaves Bayern trailing league leaders Bayer Leverkusen by 13 points with only seven games remaining in the season.
In a post-match interview, Tuchel acknowledged the insurmountable gap, stating, “Obviously, yes. After today’s game there is no more need to count points.” He congratulated Bayer Leverkusen on their remarkable season thus far.
Leverkusen, led by manager Xabi Alonso, who confirmed his stay at the club for the next season, now stand on the brink of clinching their first league title.
With just three wins needed from their remaining fixtures, Leverkusen aim to halt Bayern’s streak of 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles.
