U-17 WAFU Championship: Black Starlets maintain perfect start to book place in semis

Black Starlets have booked a place in the U-17 WAFU Championship semi-finals after defeating Benin 2-0 in their final group game.

First-half strikes from Mark Kagawa Mensah and Theophilus Ayamga were enough to see the team through.

Laryea Kingston’s side started the game well, keeping hold of the ball and creating decent opportunities. Eventually, in the 19th minute, they found their breakthrough.

Mark Mensah shrugged off a challenge from the opposition defender to dink it expertly over goalkeeper Mohamed Katchkolo.

Three minutes later, the Starlets found their cushion. A passing clinic involving 10 passes found Theophilus Ayamga who drove the ball hard and low into the net from outside the box.

Despite efforts from Benin in the second 45 minutes, Ghana managed to hold on to the win.

It is now two wins from two for the starlets. They beat Ivory Coast 5-1 in their opening game and are one win away from booking a place in the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 2017.
