A disturbing incident has occurred at the Sehwi Asawinso cemetery in the Sehwi Wiawso Municipality, where over 20 graves have been desecrated by suspected ritualists.
The vandals reportedly exhumed skeletons and other remains from the graves, causing outrage and concern among local chiefs and residents.
The desecration was discovered earlier this week when locals visiting the cemetery noticed numerous graves had been tampered with. Upon closer inspection, it became apparent that body parts and entire skeletons had been removed, leading to suspicions of ritualistic activities.
Abusuapanin Kofi Nkrumah of Sehwi Asawinso expressed his shock and disappointment over the incident. He indicated that the act of sacrilege is a grave disrespect to their ancestors and the deceased. It is an affront to their customs and traditions as he has further called for immediate investigations to apprehend those responsible and prevent further occurrences.
Additionally, the queen of Sehwi Asawinso, Nana Hemaa Ama Kyiniwaa said they are putting in place measures to refrain people who visit the cemetery without any permission. She further indicated that there would be sanctions for any person who forbids their directives.
“What we are saying is that the next time we find anyone at the cemetery we will deal with the person without involving the police,” she stated.
